Specialist Hardwood Flooring Installation Company in Suffolk
We offer high-quality wood flooring installations that adds value to your home and, if cared for, can last a lifetime. An excellent solution for allergy sufferers too.
The first step is to conduct a free survey to identify the type and condition of subfloor and discuss the options that are available. This will determine whether your floor can be:
- Glued
- Secret nailed
- Floated
The glues we use are the best on the market. In certain conditions a liquid D.P.M. (damp proof membrane) will be applied prior to fitting, depending on the moisture level of the subfloor.
Types of Wood Flooring We Install
There are many different types of floor to suit your individual requirements. The 2 main subdivisions are:
- Solid
- Engineered (semi-solid)
The solid board is solid timber all the way through, where as the engineered is constructed with a solid top layer and glued with cross ply underneath, giving it more stability and less chance of movement. Engineered boards can be used over underfloor heating where as solid boards cannot. Please contact us for more info.
Species of Wood Flooring We Install
Oak is by far the most popular due to its character, strength and warmth of colour, but other species available are walnut, ash, maple, beech, cherry, bamboo and pine.
Sizes of Wood Flooring Boards
The wood boards can come in various widths and lengths depending on the effect you want to achieve. They can range from 50mm wide to 350mm wide.
Wood Flooring Finishes
The boards can be finished in a way to suit your needs. There are 2 main finishes:
- Oiled
- Laquered
Each has its pros and cons but these can be discussed further in relation to your circumstances. Boards can also be stained in a colour prior to finishing to attain the desired effect in a room.
Trims & Skirting Boards
After a wooden floor is installed, pre-existing or new skirting boards can be fitted. These can be MDF/pine, painted or solid wood.
Alternatively, the floor can be fitted within the pre-existing skirting boards, and a solid wood quadrant (scotia) can be used to hide the expansion gaps.
Doorways can be fitted with a solid threshold or a smaller door bar. Stairs can also be clad in the desired wood and matwells can be picture framed flush into the flooring.
